Order and Natural History:  at the herzog august bibliothek, in wolfenbüttel, germany:
The impact of europe’s increasing contact with distant lands in the 18th century cannot be overstated and fantastic
tales abounded of the unknown world of their natural history. The period’s intense interest in botany and zoology
resulted in fanatical collecting of strange, never-before-seen plants and animals. here is a preview of one of the
books on show -‘Poissons, Ecrevisses et Crabes de Divers Couleurs et Figures Extraordinaires’, published by Louis
Renard
in Amsterdam in 1718.

This animation is so gorgeous and original.  An amazing collaboration of talent and hypnotizing to watch.  Turn up your volume and enjoy…

The hearts of the Blackheart Gang are, as the name suggests, dark. They hardly show emotion and seldom seem to show any regret for their previous actions, such as the creation of their latest project THE TALE OF HOW. It comes as little surprise that The Tale of How has been renamed, in some circles, as The Grim Reaper. This brings me back to something I mentioned earlier, that is, that their hearts are black. Their cold smug bravado, and their black-in-black eyes are known to strike fear into the hearts of film festival organizers and hotel managers alike. It’s their unresponsive natures, the rumours of the missing journalist, the way they stand in the rain, on the cold veranda, staring at the grey sea. People find ways to dismiss these rather anti social habits by saying ” Jeesh, artists! Go figure ‘em out” or you know “they’ve achieved so much!” But have they really achieved so much? The Blackheart Gang is a well oiled machine, a collective of good friends with passion for the arts. Each member have their own sets of skills and talents that form an incredible collaborative dynamic.

There’s something sweet about being macabre….

Lena Wolff’s is a bay area artist who creates whimsical world of hand painted paper cut collages. She starts by building background for her work with thin layers of gray paint which is then rubbed with powdered graphite. The paper surface is punctured with a needle to create pin pricks and then hand-painted cut pieces are pasted along with various sizes of hole-punched paper.

J’adorable.
